About this book

Why is Monday called Somvar?

Because Soma is Chandra, the moon. And every day of the week in Bharat is named after a graha (a celestial body), watched over by a devata, and honoured by a small ritual that lives on in countless homes today.

Illustrated pages, one for each day. Hindi and English day names side by side, each with its planet, its devata, and the little tradition that makes the day feel like itself, water and bilva leaves for Shiva on Somvar, the Hanuman Chalisa on Mangalvar, a fresh diya for Lakshmi on Shukravar. A Parent Notes page explains it all to the grown-up reading aloud.

Inside:

  • A spread for every day of the week, Ravivar (Sunday) to Shanivar (Saturday), in the traditional panchang order
  • Hindi and English day names, with simple meanings
  • The graha (planet) and devata behind each day
  • A "Did you know?" note on every day
  • A Parent Notes page with talking points and a words-in-this-book table

Written for ages 4–7, for India and the diaspora alike. The third book in the Sanatan Bhumi · Gurukul imprint, Bharat-rooted, parampara-respectful, never preachy.

Illustrations were made with digital tools, including AI, then selected and retouched by hand.
